Mrs. Amber Mays, Interim Principal

Dutchman Creek Middle School

Mrs. Amber Mays is entering her 19th year in education with a strong commitment to academic excellence, student development, and community engagement. A proud graduate of Zebulon B. Vance High School in Charlotte, NC (Class of 2000), Mrs. Mays went on to attend Appalachian State University on a softball scholarship. There, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History Secondary Education.

She began her career in Cabarrus County Schools, where she taught Sociology, U.S. History, and Civics & Economics while also coaching softball, volleyball, and basketball. During her time in the classroom, she earned a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University, which led her back to her alma mater, Vance High School, as an assistant principal.

After four years of school leadership in North Carolina, Mrs. Mays relocated to Rock Hill, SC, where she has served Dutchman Creek Middle School as an assistant principal for the past six years. She now steps into the role of Interim Principal with a continued focus on student achievement and creating a rigorous and enriching school experience for all students.

Mrs. Mays is passionate about building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader community. She is proud of the incredible work that takes place each day at Dutchman Creek, a school recently honored for the fourth time as a School to Watch.

As Dutchman Creek enters its third year as a Leader in Me school, Mrs. Mays remains dedicated to the school’s pursuit of Lighthouse School designation. She believes that through collaboration, clarity, and consistency, Dutchman Creek will continue to excel in academics, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and organizational effectiveness.

In her free time, Mrs. Mays enjoys spending quality time with her family—her husband, Brian, and their two sons, Greyson and Braxton.
